Bunny Nature Hay from Nature Conservation Meadows
   1 Review(s)

This is the most original and natural machine-dried hay you can imagine. Of course, it is coming from nature protection areas in Germany: Untreated with fertilizers or pesticides, they are the home to a diversity of plants and herbs that no ordinary meadow can reach. But even nature-protected meadows have to be mown (at a late cutting time), as this is the only way to maintain the diversity of plants, making them attractive for animals. Hay with a unique quality, composition and structure.

This is all part of the bunny sustainability cycle. We mow the nature-protected meadows so that the animals can continue to find valuable food and, in doing so, we gain hay with a unique quality, composition and structure.

From the meadow into the bag...
  • Nature conservation meadows
The unique variety of plants is characteristic for nature conservation meadows and, therefore, is particularly attractive for the animals. It goes without saying that these areas may not be treated with fertilisers or sprays – nature conservation meadows are really untouched.
  • Mowing to preserve the variety of plants
Regular mowing is important to preserve the variety of plants. If this is neglected, a monoculture would arise. Few species of plants would assert themselves, and the variety would not exist any longer. These meadows would be unattractive for many animals - as a habitat and as a source of food. Therefore, we are active here, so that the natural habitats continue to remain attractive for the animals in all respects.
The meadows are not mown before the middle of June - so that any breeding animals are not disturbed. The nature conservation meadows are examined by experts who officially approve the mowing.
  • CO2-neutral drying in warm air
After the mowing, the hay – now compressed into bales – is, so to speak, subjected to a wellness treatment. It is very gently dried by warm air in an environmentally friendly CO2-neutral procedure. Thus, the natural colour, the varied taste and the many fine plant and herb parts survive. That is unique!
  • hand-picked and packed by hand in hay-fresh bags
Here, work by hand is important. The hay is carefully loosened and the paper bags are carefully filled by hand with all the finest plant and herb parts, as well as the long, crisp stems. The hay-fresh bags are something quite special. Just a small window provides a view of the fantastic hay. Thus, you can get a good impression of the quality. On the other hand, the contents is protected from bleaching and the fine holes provide optimum air circulation. The hay is perfectly stored and reaches the hay rack with all its quality.

Hay produced in South Africa are traditionally sun-dried whilst leading hay manufacturers such as Bunny Nature in Germany are using the latest developments in technology to produce high quality feeding hay.

Why is Bunny Nature hay machine-dried indoors?

Using a gentle machine drying process that is Co2 neutral to produce hay provides a range of advantages:
  • The harvesting process is less dependent on the weather, and therefore easier to plan.
  • More of the nutrients remain preserved in the hay which therefore requires you to feed less to provide ideal maintenance. This is a considerable cost advantage of machine-dried hay.
  • The animals are also healthier, the vet bills lower.
  • The quality of the hay is clear to be seen: even after drying, it preserves a colour and smell that makes it seem freshly mown. This also attests to the hay’s nutritional value: 5% more protein content and lower in sugars.
Please find below a simple guideline to help pet owners understand the high levels of beneficial fibre required by rabbits.

1. High Quality Feeding Hay

High-quality, feeding hay should make up 85-90% of your rabbit's diet. You should make sure it is freely available and replaced with fresh hay every day. Bunny Nature timothy and meadow hay from Germany provides the highest quality by offering a wide variety of plants such as timothy grass, meadow fescue, meadow foxtail, ryegrass, red fescue, bluegrass, bentgrass, cocksfoot, creeping red fescue, german ryegrass, dandelion, silverweed, chickweed, yarrow, ribwort, white clover, red clover, birdsfood trefoil. This hay provides maximum taste and nutrients to rabbits through its diversity of plants. It is rich in fibres, crunchy & dust-free.

2. Bunny Nature Trimellos®

The patented Trimello® shaped pellets from Bunny Nature should be fed as a supplement to feeding hay or grass to ensure your rabbits get all the vitamins and minerals they need. These Trimellos® are made with 42 different plants from natural meadows, just as nature intended. This food does not contain any added preservatives, flavour enhancers, added sugar, colouring or flavouring.

These delicious, natural and healthy snacks can be fed in small amounts either by hand to help bonding, left in housing to keep your rabbits occupied or sprinkled through feeding hay to encourage foraging.

4. Fresh Leafy Greens

Rabbits can be fed fresh leafy greens everyday as a treat to add variety and provide additional nutrition such as fresh grass (not lawn clippings), dandelion leaves, plantain, herb robert, rose bush leaves, nasturtium, wild geranium, strawberry and raspberry leaves, hazel tree leaves & branches, willow tree leaves & branches, apple tree leaves & branches, Hawthorn, brambles, goosegrass, blackthorn, nettle (dried), cauliflower leaves, celery leaves, green pepper, kale, mint, romaine lettuce (not iceberg lettuce), spring greens.

The following should be fed only occassionally in small amounts: Apple (pipless), banana, savoy cabbage, turnip, carrot tops, swede, spinach, parsley, basil, dill, oregano, coriander.

5. Fresh Lukewarm Water

A plentiful supply of fresh lukewarm water should be supplied daily. Change it daily in warm weather and ensure it hasn't frozen over during winter months.

Bunny Nature, a dedicated brand for small mammals!

Bunny Nature is a family owned business in Germany that is founded with love for animals. Their goal, which they continue to pursue to this day, is to produce optimal and healthy food for small mammals, which is perfectly tailored to the animals' original living environment and needs.

This company works closely with leading veterinarians specialized in rodents and integrates scientific research into the production of rodent food and accessories. Bunny Nature was one of the first manufacturers to develop a low-sugar diet for small rodents, which minimizes the risk of diabetes.

The CEO of Bunny Nature says: "When developing and producing animal-friendly food, we always put the animals first. We look at where they come from, what they eat there, what their social behavior and eating behavior look like. It is not only important to provide that information and understand their nutritional needs, but it is also essential to apply this knowledge consistently when choosing the right food. That makes all the difference."
